29.06.2009 > Royal Jersey in a good position to retain CI LeagueThe Royal Jersey is in a good position to retain the Channel Islands Inter-Club League following the results of this weekend's matches in Guernsey. The CI League is played between the four main CI clubs; Royal Jersey, Royal Guernsey, L'Ancresse and La Moye. The Clubs play their matches against the clubs from the other Island over the course of a weekend. On Saturday the Royal defeated a strong L'Ancresse side 7.5 - 4.5 to retain the RCL Gould Trophy for the eigth year in a row. The sides were level at 2 - 2 after the morning foursomes, with wins for Robbie Messervy & Matt Vincent and Matthew Parkman & Gyles Robin. However, the afternoon singles saw some excellent results for the visitors. Matthew Parkman was first out and defeated Mike Hamon 4&3. Robbie Messervy had a superb 4&3 win against Guernsey champion, Andy Eggo. Gyles Robin, Dan Burchell and Chris Huelin all registered wins on the 17th and Matt Vincent halved with former CI Champion Garry McFarlane. At the same time Royal Guernsey defeated La Moye Golf Club 7.5 - 4.5. On Sunday the Club faced Royal Guernsey for the Falle Cup, whilst La Moye played L'Ancresse. Once again, Royal Jersey found themselves 2 - 2 at lunch after the foursomes with wins for Matt Parkman & Gyles Robin and Dan Burchell & Chris Huelin. Wins for Matthew Parkman, Gyles Robin, Alex Guelpa and Matt Vincent ensured that the trophy was retained 6 - 6. L'Ancresse defeated La Moye 7.5 - 4.5. These results leaves L'Ancresse at the top of the table with 4 points, a point further behind is the Royal Jersey who have a match in hand as L'Ancresse had already defeated Royal Guernsey in an earlier match. The Royal Jersey will only require a draw in the Kutch Trophy, against La Moye, to retain the League Trophy they regained last year. However, Team Captain Paddy O'Connell will not settle for anything less than a resounding victory! The Royal Jersey results in the RCL Gould Trophy and Falle Cup can be viewed in full on the results pages. The CI Inter-Club League table can be viewed here.
