Diary Event

The 125th celebration mixed greensomes attracted a field of 42 pairs on Saturday afternoon. Taking advantage of a break in the wind and rain that dominated the last week's weather, Dave Blake and Jane Lansdell returned an excellent score of 44 stableford points. This comprised of two halves of 22 points, which included back-to-back birdies at the 16th & 17th holes. Runner's-up were Phil Bolton and Cathy Pigeon, with 41 points. This was a remarkable achievement as Phil only stepped in at the last moment to fill in for the injured David Minty! Third place went to Brian and Mary Marr with 39 points. It was a successful day for 'the Marr's' as they picked up the Men's and Ladies nearest the pin prizes as well!

Afterwards, all participants and a number of guests enjoyed a fantastic meal in the clubhouse. Guest of honour was Chris Hilton and his wife, Liz. Chris is the immediate Past Captain of the R&A ('retiring' only 10 days previously) and spoke about Women in golf and the state of the game in the UK. As a previous Chair of the R&A Rules Committee, he, not surprisingly, was bombarded with questions regarding the new rules during the Q&A session. This was not wholly unexpected as it was his Committee that was responsible for introducing the new rules earlier this year!

Pictured is the Lady Captain, Shelagh Herbert, receiving a gift from the R&A commemorating the 125th anniversary of the RJGC Ladies Section.
